Windows 7 has passed Windows XP global usage for the first time since its release in October 2009 as the worlds most popular operating system. Win 7 has taken a 40 percent share of the market, where as XP usage slipped to 38.64% in the month of October according to StatCounter. Vista stands at 11% going down, Mac OS X and Linux are still steady at 7 and 0.82 percent respectively.

According to Microsoft research indicates that 94% of new PCs will ship with Windows 7 in 2011 and 42% of all PC’s worldwide will run on windows 7.

Microsoft is working on a new operation system, windows 8 which is expected to release in mid 2012.
