According to iSuppli, a market research firm, the number of Ultrabooks shipping in 2012 have been slashed in half which could be the reason for very high cost of Ultrabooks. Digitimes have put out a report that suggests that by 2013, Ultrabooks may get pretty affordable and cost from $699. The cost cut may come at the expense of “premium” materials, like switching from aluminum into fiber glass-reinforced plastic or metal-plastic hybrid builds with HDD/SSD hybrid drives and etc and still maintain the slim form factor which defines an Ultrabook.

There are still going to be higher-end Ultrabooks made with aluminum, SSDs and the likes which will cost $1,000 or more. It will be the best way to own a Ultrabook compromising performance build quality.
