One way to know if a Twitter account is legit or not, especially when dealing with pubic figures, is the blue badge next to the handle, signifying it’s “Verified.”
Now, the company has just announced a brand new online application that will let Twitter users appeal to the social-network-turned-news-platform to get their own accounts Verified. They’ll be looking for the same parameters, though, meaning those looking through the applications will approve accounts that are deemed to be of a public interest.
That typically means accounts that are run by folks in the TV, film, journalism, government, fashion, sports, business, and other areas of interest.
“We want to make it even easier for people to find creators and influencers on Twitter so it makes sense for us to let people apply for verification,” said Tina Bhatnagar, Twitter’s vice president of User Services. “We hope opening up this application process results in more people finding great, high-quality accounts to follow, and for these creators and influencers to connect with a broader audience.”
The online application is rolling out right now, and it will be available globally by the end of the week.
