The fragments of Russia’s space probe ,the Phobos-Grunt crashed into the Pacific Ocean on Sunday night. The probe was set on a mission to come back with samples from Mar’s largest moon, Phobos. The probe’s rocket machinery malfunctioned on the 8th of November and was floating in space , expected to eventually crash.
Alexei Zolotukhin from Russian defence ministry told the Russian news agency RIA Novosti that the fragments had crashed in the Pacific Ocean, about 1259 kilometres to the west of Wellington Island in Southern Chile at around 17:45 GMT.
“Star-gazers reported the gold-coloured vessel emitting a bright orange glow as it traversed the globe in an eastward direction between London to the north and New Zealand to the south.”
