We all know about NVIDIA TEGRA processors used in mobile technologies like Tablets and Smart phones. NVIDIA next generation of quad core mobile processors after TEGRA codenamed Kal-El which is supposed to be launched by the end of this year. The Kal-El however seems to have an ace up its sleeve. A “5th Core!”, this is due to the vSMP technology (Variable Symmetric Multiprocessing Technology). The 5th core executed tasks at low frequencies.

The low frequency tasks include Active Standby, music playback and also video playback. The 5th processor is made using a low power silicon process, whereas the main quad cores are made using standard silicon process for higher frequency tasks.
