Former Apple CEO John Sculley is all set to launch his own brand on smartphones in India and the name is Obi. The brand will be launched by John Sculley in the month of April. We can expect the company to produce smartphones and feature phones under Rs. 12,000 inorder to compete with local brands in India like Micromax, Karbonn, Xolo.
The brand is being funded by Singapore-based Inflexionpoint, which will initially invest about $20 million towards setting up a design centre, supply chain, sales and marketing network to launch the brand in the country. The brand will be led by Ajay Sharma who was previously heading Micromax’s smartphone division.
The company also aims to expand in other markets, including Asia Pacific, Middle East and Latin America.
