With over 250 million photos uploaded each day, sharing pictures is one of the most popular activities on Facebook. Now, the photos you share on Facebook are bigger with the resolution of 720 pixels to 960 pixels and load twice as fast. This gives users a quicker access to more detailed images.  Photos you’ve already uploaded to your profile will also be displayed at this higher resolution.

The viewer itself is also getting an update that replaces the current black lightbox with an opaque white, which it says puts more of the focus on the photo itself. These new features will be gradually rolling out to everyone over the next few days.
