GIGApixel Camera To Come Soon
Researchers from Duke University and the University of Arizona have developed a camera capable of capturing 50 gigapixel images and predict it may be available to the market 5 years from now on. The Prototype camera is 2.5 feet square and 20 inches deep, 50 gigapixels which is 50,000 megapixels, when compared to a standard iPhone 4S camera of 8 megapixels and has 5 times better resolution than 20/20 human vision.
He continues: “A shared objective lens gathers light and routes it to the microcameras that surround it, just like a network computer hands out pieces to the individual work stations. Each gets a different view and works on their little piece of the problem. We arrange for some overlap, so we don’t miss anything.”
The researchers have synchronizes 98 tiny cameras in a single device produce one ginormous image and they found the barriers to overcome were less one of optics, than of computing power.
