Windows Phone 8 Officially Announced
Microsoft has officially announced the next-generation mobile operation system Windows Phone 8. Windows Phone 8 has promised to be new and robust in terms of hardware and tighter relations to the Windows platform.
So starting up with the Windows 8 mobile OS features:
New screen resolutions: Windows 8 is going to support 3 new screen resolutions WVGA (800×480 pixels), WXVGA (1280×768), and “True 720p” (1280×720).
Multicore Processor Support: Windows 8 now supports Dual-core and Quad-core processors, theoretically up to 64 cores.
More shared coding with IE10: In Windows 8, Internet Explorer 10 even though not released yet, will be having very similar coding to the desktop version which will allow it to take the advantage of the robust desktop security features.
MicroSD card Support: Windows 8 smartphone will have microSD card support for extended external memory up to 16GB, 32GB or 64GB.
Supports NFC and mobile wallet: Near Field Communication (NFC) will let Microsoft create its own wallet and mobile payments experience just like what Apple and Google planing an app.
Better maps and directions: Microsoft’s partnership with Nokia Mapping is a part of Window phone 8, provide more detailed maps and turn-by-turn directions. It also has option to store maps offline, can be used when there is no data connection.
The current Windows 7.5 phone users will unfortunately not be getting the Windows 8 update, but will get another update called the Windows Phone 7.8 which will have the appearance of the windows phone 8. The Windows Phone 8 is a next-generation operating system so will not support the existing hardware. Today Microsoft also announced the Windows Phone Marketplace hit 100,000 apps, which is growning faster than Android and iOS.
